CAPE TOWN: MYKEY – OWN THE BLOCK #DontChokeRapChallenge winner 2017

The night started off chilled with some hip hop classics by The Muffin Man and DJ SIRCULA to set the mood, but soon the tension was filled in the crowded place.
It was no easy road to the Finals as MYKEY had to overcome the odds of competing against 16 of Cape Town’s TOP rappers to #OWNTHEBLOCK and be crowned this year’s Champion! The Final between KULTURE & MYKEY proved to be the highlight of the night as both rappers came with hard punch lines that kept the crowd shouting for more and their delivery was almost immaculate which made for 1 of the best battles to date on the Own The Block platform. The crowd sure had a tough time deciding the winner as they sounded more confused than even YoungstaCPT & Tyler The Instigator as the rap battle was forced to be settled in a sudden death round.
Also KNO THREE – 3 was announced as the 1st OFFICIAL battle rapper to join the Own The Block rap battle league and more announcements will follow soon.
If you missed this one, you can catch a glimpse of the LIVE performance by the Y-General aka @YoungstaCPT below and make sure NOT to miss out on the next!

STAY tuned as details to the next Own The Block event taking place next month in August drops real soon!

CAPE TOWN: YoungstaCPT & Tyler The Instigator

The Leaders of the battle rap scene in South Africa are back at it once again this Saturday 1st July for their annual MAIN event The#DontChokeRapChallenge 2017.

Last year we saw OWN THE BLOCK team up with Cape Audio College, Boston City Campus and Soul Candi to deliver not only the biggest rap battle competition in the History of the Mother City, but also provided the opportunity for last year’s DON’T CHOKE Season 1- 2016 winner (RIYO aka real name Riyaadh Sarang) to fulfil his dreams of pursuing a career in music and granted a bursary to study the Music Composition & Production course in Cape Town.

With a steady growing fan-base reaching as far as the United States of America, Own The Block is slowly taking over the world by storm, one BLOCK at a time!

This year they’re taking things to a NEW level with total prizes valued at R10 000. Own The Block is constantly seeking to discover those diamonds in the rough and have since discovered some of the best talent and dopest rappers in Cape Town and therefore have cemented their name as the #1 Street Rap Battle league in the country.

The #DontChokeRapChallenge consists of the TOP 16 rappers in the City of Cape Town! Rappers are eliminated by the crowd after each round which see the TOP 4 rappers left in CPT include Kirwan aka Sir Kir, KULTURE, Genius CPT & MYKEY in the Finals on July 1st competing to #OWNTHEBLOCK for that #1 spot!

Beat Bangaz and YoungstaCPT drops Bo-Kaap Music Video

Beat Bangaz and YoungstaCPT just dropped the music video for “BO-KAAP” and it is a BANGER for sure! The video is set in Bo-Kaap obviously, with scenes from inside a Golden Arrow bus with the ‘klopse’ (aka ‘coons’ to some) and all sorts of places showcasing the beautiful parts of the coloured heritage while Youngsta goes in harder than ever with punch line after punch line, sounding like he needs to get something off his chest, he raps about being at the top of the game and Number 1 in Cape Town and ironically the title of the song is called “Bo-Kaap” which is the furthest point in central Cape Town but also directly translated from Afrikaans means “on top of Cape Town”.

Peep the video below and let us know your thoughts?

CASSPER RATES YOUNGSTA CPT

WATCH @casspernyovest RATES @youngstacpt 👆 such a honest guy! God bless him 🙏 #RealRecognizeReal #Kaapstad #CapeTown

A post shared by Tyler The Instigator (@tylertheinstigator) on

The Tito Mboweni hitmaker rates Youngsta CPT as “one of the dopest rappers in the country and the best thing that happened to Cape Town Hip Hop”. And then he doesn’t stop there, he goes on to say “You guys need to f*cking support”.  We wonder who he is referring to though, do you think Youngsta CPT gets the recognition he deserves?

Let us know what you think, do you agree with CASSPER?
